@girlsHBO @lenadunham screening last night with @jenkucsak.
We saw the first three episodes and absolutely loved the show. Lena Dunham is amazing and I want to be BFF with her in real life. I love the writing, directing, tone and casting.
Co-starring in Girls is Jemima Kirke, the British bestie from Tiny Furniture, in a more developed supporting role; Allison Williams, beautiful, poised and funny as Lena’s uptight roomie; and Zosia Mamet, hilarious, scene-stealing and slightly idiotic as the friend everybody puts up with. (Sidenote: I just realized Zosia plays Peggy Olsen’s lesbian friend who works at TIME magazine on Mad Men! Love her!)
I loved the frank discussion of female sexuality, from abortion to bad sex to yes, even the Cosmo-dreaded HPV virus. It was relatable, honest and better than anything I’ve seen on TV for our age demo since My So-Called Life or a very special episode of Degrassi. As Judd Apatow said, it feels like an indie film, much like Freaks and Geeks did. I don’t think there’s anything more interesting for women on TV other than Mad Men right now. Here’s to the future of labia saturation. You go, Girls!
